Bogotá-Colombia, 1984.

Her artistic practice is an opportunity to filter existence through creation. She works mainly with painting, but she is not limited by it. Each project is an attempt to transform and imprint meaning into material. The process is a central subject of observation within her practice. Currently she explores the balance between rationality and randomness in the creative process, on an attempt to free projects to unexpected outcomes.

Monica’s paintings show the relationships between natural/artificial and personal life/artistic practice.
The anchors of her pictorial creation are based on her experience, that is, the reality understood as the collection of images from different sources: newspapers, magazines, internet and others are captured while observing her surroundings.
Those images become a documents set that is included and reinterpreted in the paintings.
